Surprisingly quickly, but we are going to get the 2018 Mazda 3 fourth-generation version pretty soon. Ever since the Mazda 3 model started making record breaking sales the Japanese designers decided to put more effort into this car and bring us more from the model than it was previous expected to offer. The model peaked with its third-generation automobile which was introduced in 2013 and which was the model which established the nameplate in the current compact market.
Mazda 3 was originally designed in 2003 and it did not show so much promise as it showed in the past. The third-generation model was a ground breaking one for them as it exemplified much more than people expected. After that the car was given a mid-life refresh for the 2016 model year and it is currently the outgoing model that we see now. But they are not resting as the next-generation one is already in plans.
Wish the introduction of the RX-Vision concept, it is expected that this car is supposed to inspire a handful of vehicles in the future lineup of Mazda. The 2018 Mazda 3 is one of them and it will probably also be the first model which will be using it. For now there are no spy photos or leaked pictures but there are some renderings available which are inspired by the recent revolutionary design and technique that Mazda is using which will certainly be used to make this car. Since little is known about the price and the release date we have comprised a review which might help you learn more about the newest model which will come our way sooner than we think.
When is the Release Date Arriving for the 2018 Mazda 3?
It is still hard to say or predict when the actual release of the 2018 Mazda 3 will be. The model is currently under development, we are aware of that, but the car will not arrive in a year’s time at least. In fact we predict that it will be offered either in mid-2018 or by the end of that year. We hope that it comes for the first predicted period.
What Could the Price Be?
It might be still early to tell how much the 2018 Mazda 3 would cost. For reference we can use the MSRP price of the current four-door sedan, which starts at $17,845, and the four-door hatchback, which retails at $18,545, for reference. The newest 2018 version of the Mazda 3 car will be close to those prices but will inevitably cost a little bit higher than that.
How will the 2018 Mazda 3 look like?
Based on the recent announcements, the 2018 Mazda 3 will primarily utilize the design of the newest RX-Vision concept. But we do not expect all of the aggressive details from the concept to actually make it to the production vehicle, but some of them are certainly possible. First of all, the grille and a similar design of the headlamps will be present for the newest car. But the grille will probably be toned down with horizontal slats instead of a honeycomb mesh. Below, we expect some wide and sleek side intakes to be added.
The side of the car will earn the same type of a fender vent seen on the concept. But a slightly revised roof line will be used and also a new wheel design. The rear end will also adopt slimmer taillights which will go really well with the overall sporty design of the vehicle. We also think that a blacked-out trim will be available for the more expensive trims.
A Redesigned Interior
We are also looking at a completely redesigned interior of the 2018 Mazda 3. It will go right along the nice looking exterior but will go through some notable changes compared to the concept car. We expect a revised layout of the controls with a more modern look. There is going to be a larger infotainment screen which will be integrated into the dashboard. A new center console will provide more storage room which also comes with a new steering wheel and a redesigned instrument cluster.
It is also said that they plan to improve comfort which is probably going to happen with adding better front and rear seats. There are also plans of adding more shoulder room, legroom and headroom. Also the newest car will be much closer to a premium segment so we expect it to debut with all of the present features upgraded to higher ones. This means aluminum trims, two-tone leather upholstery in the range-topping versions and also such additions like the Company’s latest technology added. Expect improved navigation, new audio system and more connectivity.
Can we expect new Powertrain Choices?
It is safe to say that the 2018 Mazda 3 will be powered by a small-displacement, four-cylinder engine. No official word has been made for this car but the prediction stands at possible 1.5-, 2.0-, and 2.5-liter powerplants as gasoline versions, with the smaller one offered in the European market and the latter one given in the US. But if they are to include a diesel variant we are probably looking at a redesigned version of the current 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine. Besides the engines, there are taking about bringing in new transmission choices with the six-speed automatic being replaced by a seven-speed dual-clutch unit.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
Unfortunately, as they have still not decided on the engine for the 2018 Mazda 3, it is still hard to make a prediction on the top speed. This news will probably become available pretty soon and we are expecting it to be announced shorty. You will find it out here first and also the choice for the powertrain. For reference, the outgoing one makes 0-60 mph in 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 132 mph.
Improved Fuel Economy
The newest 2018 Mazda 3 will probably offer us better fuel economy compared to the current one. The outgoing version makes 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, but there are some predictions which have stated that the new 2018 Mazda 3 might be able to make 40 mpg highway which would be interesting to see.
Potential Dimension Changes
There was an announcement that firstly said that the 2018 Mazda 3 is going to retain the same size and the same proportions as the outgoing model. But it was later revealed that this might change and that the car might actually be a bit longer this time and a tad bit wider. This could be an opportunity for the Mazda 3 to offer more space on the inside with this new model.
The safety packages will improve for the 2018 Mazda 3. But for now we can confirm that we are going to get the standard set transferred from the current vehicle. We do mean lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and Mazda’s Smart Braking System, a form of automated-braking assist, which are going to be available for this car.
Which are the Rivals that we can expect?
The compact segment is a very lucrative one these days and the 2018 Mazda 3 will need to continue where its predecessor left off. In order to be the best one has to go over the rivals as well and in this case the closest ones are the Toyota Corolla and the Ford Focus. It might not be easy but since the Mazda 3 has managed to pull it before they might manage to do it again.
