The 2018 Lincoln Continental Finally Making a Comeback

2018 Lincoln Continental review

With the introduction of the 2018 Lincoln Continental version, the car is going to make a long awaited comeback as it was discontinued for the third time more than 10 years ago. This idea came to fruition first when a concept version of the Continental car was shown at the New York Auto Show in 2015. It took them some time to actually make the production version but the car is finally here and will officially make its comeback as the tenth-generation vehicle and a 2018 model.

We are extremely happy and welcome the new Continental with open arms and hope that the fourth stint of the luxurious model will be a fruitful one. The car certainly has a lot of prospect about it and will provide a welcoming offer to the fans.

Even though Lincoln did not speculate too much about its new car there is plenty already released and known about it to make a comprehensive review about it. The guessing game is over and we do not have to work with renderings any more as the real thing will get a release date soon. So let’s leave the spy photos alone and concentrate on some more solid evidence with the newest version and our review.

When is the Release Date Scheduled?

The 2018 Lincoln Continental is going to come in showrooms by the end of the year. It was predicted that the car would begin sales by the end of this year so although the official release date has not been stated, we are probably going to see the car arrive a bit earlier than the model year in its name suggests.

What Could the Price be?

Lincoln has already released the price ratings for the 2018 Lincoln Continental even though the release date is a bit late. The car will start to sell at a price of $45,485 for the base trim given as a base MSRP price. But the prices will differ based on the trims of course so the next in line is the Select trim offered at $48,440. If you want the model fitted with the EcoBoost engine than the price goes to $54,840 for the Reserve trim. Lastly, the Black Label model is the most expensive and highest trim so far and will be priced $63,840.

Exceptional Exterior Style

It is not a surprise that the production version of the 2018 Lincoln Continental will be heavily based on the concept vehicle which debuted some years ago. A subtle design and an elegant stance is what characterizes this model. Compared to the concept car, there are going to be changes above the front bumper with a mildly revised grille and some more production friendly headlamps. The bumper has changed the most and it removes the slender air vents and adds bigger openings. This actually helps the front fascia seem a lot more aggressive.

As for the rear end, there are a lot of changes made than what we saw in the concept. In fact, almost the entirety of the back part has been reworked. Thus a conventional trunk lid has been added which goes all the way to the bumper. The taillights are made significantly larger now and also have a new cluster layout. But the two units are still going to be connected with a thin LED strip. There are chrome inserts also added for the lamps and it makes the entire back end look much more elegant.

A Worthy Interior for the Continental Brand

The inside of the 2018 Lincoln Continental actually manages to give the car more justice than the exterior of it. It features a very likeable and a worthy design for a Continental model. It provides both a comfortable and a luxurious inside which will be able to rival even the most notable competitors in the segment. Although toned down compared to the concept, the production version is a lot better. It loses some of the overtly eccentric parts and goes for a more down to earth approach which works way better than the original idea.

Different parts in the production version include the dash inserts, the A/C vents, the steering wheel, and the center console. Seats are almost the same but what is important here is that we have the new Perfect Position Seats provided by Lincoln. The seats are wrapped in leather the same as the console and the instrument panel. The stitching is specified at six to seven stitches per inch for a couture-like appearance and the slats of the door panels are laser-cut. In order to brighten up the place a little bit, some aluminum inserts have also been added.

The Same Powertrain as in the Concept

The 2018 Lincoln Continental will be using the same engine as the concept did. Back then fans were disappointed that the model did not get a V-8 engine as they wished for a V-6 one. But fans should start to get used to the idea of having this one under the hood as the last V-8 was dropped with the Navigator SUV. Thus the 2018 Continental will have a 3.0-liter V-6 engine providing it power which amounts to 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

But there are going to be two more engines offered.  A 3.7-liter V-6 and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 one given optionally. These engines have not been rated still but we do know that they score above 400 horsepower. They both come with all-wheel drive systems and will be offered for the higher trims levels of the Lincoln Continental car.

0-60 mph and Top Speed

The current specs about the 2018 Lincoln Continental do not give us an exact number when it comes to acceleration and top speed. In fact we are more than likely looking at something around 6 seconds in order to reach 0-60 mph with the top speed being 155 mph.

What are the News about the Fuel Economy?

As for the fuel economy stats, nothing is still official for the 2018 Lincoln Continental but there are certain estimations. As the car is going to be a bit on the heavier side the fuel specs are not going to be so much favorable. We cannot expect them to get any better than an estimated combined effort of 19 mpg, with 16 mpg within the city and 24 mpg on highway.

Size of the 2018 Lincoln Continental

The dimensions of the 2018 Lincoln Continental were actually revealed quite recently. It was stated that the model was going to be 201.4 inches long and have a wheelbase of 117.9 inches. Further on the height is 58 inches and the width comes to 75.3 inches. Inside it is going to be roomy with 59 cu ft of passenger volume offered and a cargo capacity of 17 cu ft. The overall weight of the car is going to deter the fuel consumption stats as the car amounts to a curb weight of 4555 lb.

Not Much Known about the Safety

There is very little known about the safety of the 2018 Lincoln Continental. They are keeping a lot of things under wraps here but we do know that they are planning of introducing Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and a new 360-degree camera system which will use different cameras placed on the grille, side mirrors and decklid.

Rivaling Vehicles

With the comeback of the 2018 Lincoln Continental on the market there are going to be some other models sharpening their claws as well. Welcoming the Continental back are cars like the Cadillac CT6 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. These cars are already fabulous in their makings so it would be nice to have a new model in the segment in order to truly bring the best out of all cars.
