With the new 2018 Kia Sedona the Japanese automaker is giving us a model which will be a very good alternative to some other brands in the segment. In fact the Sedona was never a bad car and was always one of the more popular choices when it comes to the segment, but with the new offer we are getting more than we expected at the same price. It is a very viable alternative to what other brands are offering but at a much lesser price.
People are going to love this car and if we are to judge based on only the reactions we got from the pictures alone, we are in for something much bigger. The news has spread very quickly and there is so much new to learn about the model. But we are basing our review on something more than rumors and spy photos, hard earned facts is what we are working with.
The highlight of the update for the 2018 Sedona are going to add a better infotainment system which is going to be an update of the last one and also advanced safety which improves the rating earned from before. The base Sedona is still the L trim, but besides the entry level you can still shop between the LX, EX, SX, and top out at SXL trims.
When is the Release Date Scheduled for?
It appears that the release date of the newest 2018 Kia Sedona is just right around the corner. The model will probably be offered pretty soon and we are looking at an early release which will come by the end of the year, People can already start to make plans about their orders and purchases as they will be available for sale soon.
What is the Price of the 2018 Kia Sedona?
As we said, the 2018 Kia Sedona will be perhaps the most cost-effective car in the segment and it will give us much more than other cars for a lesser price. The starting L trim will be priced at 26,900 dollars as a base MSRP price. The LX is 28,900 dollars, the EX is 33,600 dollars, the SX is 36,900 dollars and the SX-L is offered at 41,900 dollars.
Usual Kind of an Exterior for a Minivan
It is hard to argue about the look of the 2018 Kia Sedona as it is essentially a minivan. These are not so much attractive and you can hardly argue about them being so. These cars have more to do with their use than the actual looks and it is true. But there are some improvements made here. There are some thoughtful touches added like a cleaner front end LED running lamps, some swept-back headlights, a more upright version of the Kia grille and it all manages to make the vehicle seem much more classy. The profile is identical as before and you can’t really argue with them keeping it so as it is probably impossible to innovate here.
Well, we cannot really say that the improvements for the inside of the 2018 Kia Sedona are massive but there are still updates compared to the last time. They still keep the dash uncluttered and the instrument panel has a horizontally arranged layout. Some would say that it is a little bit boring because it is standard in a way but it works. Added are some improvements for the trim with piano-black trim and two-tone schemes which break up the landscape a bit and keep things interesting. The higher-trim levels are going to feature soft touch materials and some details which are borrowed from some upscale Kia models to boot.
Even with the fact that a performance orientated engine was not expected for the 2018 Kia Sedona, as most minivans do, this engine does not disappoint but it does not inspire either. But what it does is to provide just the right amount of a necessary push for the vehicle that it needs. Thus under the hood we find a 3.3-liter V-6 engine which makes 276 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. It will combine with a 6-speed automatic, which is perhaps an aged product given the fact that the car should use a different source soon. The model is going to be a front-drive only vehicle as many in the segment already are. But one advantage that the car has is its tow rating which goes up to 3,500 pounds.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
Even with this engine on board, the 2018 Kia Sedona manages to reach some pretty satisfying rates. Its acceleration ability allows it to reach 60 mph from a standstill in mere 7.4 seconds of time while a top speed of 122 mph is also given.
Has the Fuel Economy Improved?
The fuel economy is pretty similar compared to before for the 2018 Kia Sedona, but it manages to improve slightly. Basically, most Sedona trims manage to gain an EPA rating of 18 mpg city, 24 highway, 20 combined. The SX models will be rated 18/25/21 mpg, while the SXL version have a score of 7/22/19 mpg. All in all, it is not bad for the segment but we would not mind an improvement as well.
Dimensions and Size
The size is one of the advantage of a 2018 Kia Sedona, This is a minivan with a prime objective of hauling people from one point to the other so it does work in the way that it promises. The dimesons have not change based on the previous car and the full length is kept to 201.4 inches, wheelbase 120.5 inches, height 68.5 inches and width 78.1 inches. The curb weight is also around 4772 lb.
Some Improved Safety Ratings
The 2018 Kia Sedona will not only inherit the safety ratings of its predecessor, it will also continue to advance them. In fact, the Sedona is only one of the two minivan models which has received a IIHS Top Safety Pick and it is thanks to its advanced safety features that it managed it. The new 2018 version will expand on those by offering standard Bluetooth smartphone connectivity and a rearview camera. Also offered are some surround-view cameras which provide more awareness for the outside of the car than before. And let’s not forget the already standard of airbags and stability control systems.
What does the Competition Offer?
In terms of what we can expect from the competition of the 2018 Kia Sedona is actually a standard set. There are not innovations which would make any car extravagant and give it a considerable advantage. The models which are featured here are the Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Grand Caravan, Nissan Quest, Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey.
