2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Release Date and Overview

2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 review

News about a 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is spreading fast. Ever since the spy photos were released we have been getting information left and right about this car. But we still do not have a full picture to review. The makers have confirmed their release, but it will take some time until the release date comes and also when will they decide to offer some more solid information. For now we do have a lot to go on.

The GT350 brand was spawned by Ford in 1965 and quickly joined with Mustang to create a collaborated version of the car which went on to make great success and strides in the automotive industry. At one point to model disappeared from the eye of the public but was quickly re-introduced with the 2011 version, which was at the same time its fifth-generation vehicle. The current model is a part of the sixth-generation of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 cars and it was introduced in 2015, followed with a minor upgrade which came a year after that.

Now, with the 2018 upgrade, they are planning to add more and reshape some new things for the 2018 version of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 car. As we noticed, the exterior will become much more aerodynamic while there are news of introducing an independent rear suspension as well. There are also some rumors of an upgrade coming under the hood of the car as well.

If only half of the news are true, we are in for a great new model for the segment. We are eagerly expecting the car to come out and until then here is what we have been able to find out about it.

2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Release Date

The release date for the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 has not been officially confirmed yet. But unofficially, we do know that the car is coming sometime in 2018. Based on the current development and the available information, the car may become available for sale in the first quarter of 2018.

What is the Potential Price?

Price wise, the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 will be priced higher than the current model. The current base MSRP is $63,495, and we see those figures extending for the 2018 version. You can check out more information about the packages once we release them upon learning more about them.

Exterior Redesign

The exterior look of the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 will retain the basic characteristics of the current version. This means that the car is going to be as aggressive and as muscular as the current one is. The car offers tons of fun and looks spectacular already, so the only thing the 2018 update will bring is to shape things up a bit and keep it fresh.

The aerodynamics are a big factor for the car. This is something that has been repolished here and tweaked a bit. The result is best seen in the front end of the car. The whole nose has bene shrunk and reshaped which makes the car much swoopier when cutting through air and achieving better performance. Besides the level of aggressiveness, the aerodynamic features are something which upgrades the car immensely.

New for this year are the exterior colors that were added. The newly offered color choices include the Ruby Red Metallic and the Grabber Blue. The latter choice is a heritage color which is added in order to pay homage to some of the late and great Ford Mustang Shelby models.

What are the Inside Changes?

The inside will most likely remain the same for the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350. The interior pictures are still not released and the greatest mystery remains on the inside of the car. But we do think that they will add some new materials and upgrade the car a little bit. The current model pays a lot of attention to details and the overall sporty inside is a very good looking one. The late addition of the Recaro bolstered seats for the previous version of the car was possibly the greatest update that they provided.

The newest 2018 version will most certainly offer us something new through the packages that they offer for their cars. The Electronic Package and the Convenience Package and will be added and they are set to come with some new expanded features for the car. We are still not certain what will the packages include but there were some rumors about a SYNC 3, voice-activated navigation and leather-trimmed power sports seats.

Powertrain Capability

One of the more precarious changes for the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is the adoption of a new powertrain. This news has already been available before and they have already stated it a long time ago that they are planning to depart from the 5.0-lter Coyote V-8, currently used. The most obvious choice for a replacement is a 5.2-liter flat-plane crank V-8, which is a legitimate racing engine. The potential power that this engine is reported to make will be 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. This makes this type of engine the most powerful naturally aspired engine so far.

0-60 mph Capability and Top Speed

Having all of this power at its disposal, the acceleration of the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 will be quite impressive. The model can race to 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds while its top speed is measured to an estimated 186 mph. These are of course the first predictions that were made, but the official stats are not going to be much more different than these are.

Fuel Economy for the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

The fuel economy for the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is honestly not that great. But you probably know what you are getting yourself into when using this type of a car. It is not meant to save fuel, it is meant to be a performance car. Thus the estimated EPA rating is 14 mpg in the city, 21 mpg highway drive and a combined observed rating of 15 mpg.

Dimensions

Being that this is an update, the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 does not change its current dimensions. The model will retain its basic numbers and size even with the aerodynamic enhancements which were made. So the overall length is 188.9 inches and the wheelbase is 107.1 inches. The height is measured to 53.6 inches and the width is 75.9 inches. The passenger volume is not its prime priority so it offers us a spacing of 52 cu ft and a cargo bay of 14 cu ft. The overall weight is pretty favorable for a performance car and it comes down to 3796 lb.

Safety Offers

The 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 model will come with its standard set of features which it had for the previous car. The model is going to follow the same kind of formula which they always did when it comes to safety. There are going to be some advanced safety features which might also be offered through the various packages that Ford provides for this car. We are sure that the stability control system is getting updated and perhaps along with it there are going to be some other expansions made.

Which are the Closest Rivals?

When it comes to the muscle-car segment, the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is certainly not alone. There are various other models that have always been here and pose as rivals for the Mustang cars. But the closest rival in this case is already a familiar face and it is the model that the Ford Mustang Shelby car was built to oppose. This year the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 will yet again be the closest rival that the GT350 will face and along it we also have the Dodge Challenger car making strides. The race to the top will be done in a spectacular fashion whenever these cars are involved.
