2018 Ford Galaxy review

With the 2018 Ford Galaxy model, the brand is making a comeback. The Galaxy is the largest MPV that Ford has ever produced and also one of the largest ones on the market. The popularity of this car has not subsided, but people are looking for some innovations to be added to the car which has been around for quite some time now. Although we are not getting the full reshaping of the car, we can expect to see a number of changes made for the newest Galaxy car.

What they decided to do here is to add a little bit more sharpness to the new car. The handling is much better but it takes a toll on the comfort levels of the car. The Ford Galaxy has been known as being one of the best models based on comfort and refinement in the segment, but has never shown superior driving capabilities. Now they are trading in a little bit of comfort so the driving aspects of the car is addressed as well.

When the 2018 Ford Galaxy hits the market come release date, it will still be a part of its fourth-generation models. The second-generation models started off with a platform which was shared with Volkswagen Sharan and SEAT Alhambra, while the third-generation changed to a platform which was previously used for the Ford Mondeo model. The fourth-generation models have managed to build on this and provide an even better offer in terms of comfort and usability.

The released pictures of the car show us that the new 2018 Ford Galaxy is heading in the same direction and the current reviews already attest to this being a fine model as well.

When is the Release Date for the 2018 Ford Galaxy Model?

As it was expected, we cannot get the 2018 Ford Galaxy sooner than 2018. Some speculations were made about the car hitting the market in mid-2017 but those claims were changed when it was stated that they need more time to put all the things that they want together. So a 2018 release date is imminent.

Starting Price for the Vehicle

The official price for the 2018 Ford Galaxy has not been set. But the bottom line is that it will be fairly similar to the last batch of models. It will still come in Zetec, Titanium and Titanium X trims, with the base one costing £26,445, the Titanium one being priced at £28,595, and the top-ranging Titanium X being available at a price of £33,095.

Exterior Details

The exterior of the 2018 Ford Galaxy is made in the same manner as its predecessor has been. Fitting in seven people inside is not easy so a boxy shape is inevitable, thus the silhouette remains the same. But the changes that have been made for the car concentrate on the front end now with a chrome grille with sharper strips for the badge. The Titanium models will add LED daytime running lights and they also come specifically updated with silver roof rails, extra silver window trim and tinted rear glass. Standard models come with 17-inch wheels while the upper trims will be offered with 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear end adds large taillights and a black outline which merges with the rear windows. The only flaw is that it still offers a single standard color, but the car looks much better and has an upmarket feel to it now.

Interior Details and Technology

The main focus of the interior of the 2018 Ford Galaxy is practicality. But they do manage to slip in some improvements when it comes to adding comfort specs and some new technological items. The model hosts enough space to offer comfort for seven people at the same time. They added some better materials so the comfort is kept at a standard level. There are some chunky aluminum trim pieces added and it combines with a combination of some great shapes, like air vents, added inside. The model does manage to provide an upmarket feel and has been updated in such a way that it will give us a great kind of an offer.

Engine Choices

Ford has always been known for providing cars with great handling, and so will the 2018 Ford Galaxy be improved in that aspect. They are now offering a much more comfortable and suitable ride and they are providing us with a couple of engines to go and choose from. There are two turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engines offered, a 158 horsepower 1.5-liter one and 237 horsepower 2.0-liter petrol version.

Bu tit is predicted that the diesel variant will probably have the majority of the sales with the 148 horsepower 2.0 TDCI engine available.

0-60 mph Specification

Out of the three mentioned engines for the 2018 Ford Galaxy neither of them is slow. They all manage to put on great acceleration offers with the 1.5 petrol one achieving 0-60 mph in 10 seconds and the 2.0 version being able to do that in 8.2 seconds. The diesel variant is able to speed up to 60 mph in 10.9 seconds.

What is the Fuel Economy Rating?

Although the 2018 Ford Galaxy provides some decent fuel economy ratings based on its size, it is still not the most fuel efficient car in the segment. There are other models that you can chose if your main objective is fuel spending, but the new Galaxy will be able to provide you with a decent setup. The 119bhp 2.0 TDCI Galaxy using a manual shifter will make  56.5mpg and 129g/km, the 148bhp 2.0 TDCI and 178bhp 2.0 TDCI models using a six-speed manual are limited to 52.3mpg and 139g/km and the 207bhp TDCi unit provide a rating of 51.4mpg and 144g/km.

Dimensions and Size

The size of the 2018 Ford Galaxy will not change. We are expecting the same kind of numbers that appeared on the last model. These include a total length of 4,848mm, width 1,916mm and height of 1,747mm. The car is pretty big, there is no doubt about that, and it manages to provide its passengers with enough spacing so they feel good while driving in this kind of a model. The trunk spacing is limited to 300 liters as standard, while it expands to 1,301 liters with the third row down or 2,339 liters with both the second and third row folded.

Safety Equipment

The 2018 Ford Galaxy will probably transfer the safety scores from the latest model. The Euro NCAP agency provided the scores the last time and the model received a full five-star rating for its crash tests. So will the new 2018 model come with the same kind of equipment which includes air bags, tire pressure monitors and ISOFIX mounting points on the second row of seats. The adaptive cruise control and an active lane keep assist function is offered optionally, while the auto-braking function can detect pedestrians and other cars as well.

Rivaling Models

Although the 2018 Ford Galaxy is the largest MPV in the segment, there are some other models which offer space for seven passengers and also have the high level of comfort to rival this car. The most obvious competition models includes the Volkswagen Sharan, Citroen Grand C4 Picasso, Renault Grand Scenic and SEAT Alhambra models.
