The Durango model is best known as a unibody SUV with real towing ability, but it is also known as being manty other different things. It offers both characteristics found in an SUV and a crossover car and feels great as well. It can ride against any other models offered in the segment and it will win, given the perfect circumstances.

The new model will have just enough and just as exceptional road manners as any car out there. It is both rugged but comfortable on the inside. This time it will return in SXT, GT, R/T, and Citadel trims, where the former Limited will be replaced by the GT trim.

The release date is nearing so it was due time to prepare for a review.

When is the Release Date for the 2018 Dodge Durango Scheduled?

The new 2018 Dodge Durango is expected to make an appearance by early 2018. Although the model is almost finished with its production, we do not see it becoming available earlier than this. We will probably be able to see the official showcasing done somewhere mid-2017, followed by an exact release date unveiled.

Price Rate

With the new 2018 Dodge Durango coming soon, the price rating has still not been determined clearly. It is apparent that the model will have a slight price increase from the current one. The base MSRP cost of the outgoing model is 29,995 USD, which would probably mean for the future version to be somewhere around 31,000 dollars.

Exterior Changes

The styling of the new 2018 Dodge Durango is pretty intriguing. This new model actually does a lot to hide its heritage elements. The initial model was based on the Dakota pickup and early Ram trucks, and this version uses some conservatively stamped sheet metal to hide those. They managed to bring us a great mixture of an imposing SUV car and a tidy crossover. It has a boxy shape but one that does not make it slab-sided. Looking at it from the rear you will recognize it as a Durango, although it has some truck-sized features. But it offers a nice touch with dual exhaust details making it a bit sporty looking.

What are the Interior Additions?

The interior of the 2018 Dodge Durango takes a completely different direction. In fact it manages to exclude all the truck heritage elements and offers quite a comfortable interior. The soft dash has thin metallic rings which frame all of the most important controls of the car. There is a large touchscreen which allows infotainment control and helps to update the car with new technology. There are also new leather upholstery used with red stitching and red inserts. They actually make the car look like a luxury SUV than on-a-budget utility vehicle. It is an example of an interior update done right.

Powertrain Ability and Specs

The new 2018 Dodge Durango will offer a few different engine options. Most are transferred from the previous setup and the base still remains the 3.6-liter V-6 which makes 290 hp. This is the same engine found in Chrysler models and it is capable of towing 6,200 pounds. A stronger option is the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 which in turns provides a towing capability of 7,400 pounds. Both versions are able to use 8-speed automatic and come with an all-wheel drive.

0-60 mph and Top Speed

With the provided engine specs, the 2018 Dodge Durango speeding ability is pretty good. The model will be able to reach 60 mph in just 7.4 seconds, which is pretty good. The model also boasts with a top speed of 117 mph.

Fuel Economy Ratings

The 2018 Dodge Durango cannot really say that it is a fuel efficient car, this is one side of the Durango model that does not go its way. The model has a transferred EPA rating of 19 mpg city, 26 highway, and 21 for the base engine using the RWD, while it makes 18/25/21 mpg with the AWD. Things are even worse with the bigger engine and the AWD as they come to 14/22/17 mpg.

Dimensions and Size

Compared to the outgoing model, the 2018 Dodge Durango will keep its dimensions. It will have the same size and offer the same interior comfort, as well as a favorable cargo bay. Although people have been expecting for some changes to happen, this premise was not adopted and they decided to keep things the same, saving more significant changes for the models to come. The overall length of the Durango is 201.2 inches, the wheelbase is 119.8 inches, the height is 70.9 inches and the width is 75.8 inches. The model also boasts with an interior volume of 132 cu ft and a cargo capacity of 17 cu ft.

Safety Specs

Safety has always been an issue of the Durango model, and we do not see the 2018 Dodge Durango improving upon that as well. The current rates say that the NHTSA has given it a 4-star rating overall and also gave it 4 stars for its frontal crash and 5 in side crash. The rollover ratings depend on the number of driven wheels, so the RWD ones are scored with 4 stars and the AWD ones get 3 stars. The IIHS also gave it a marginal rating in the new small-overlap test.

Offered equipment adds dual front, side, and curtain airbags as standard and anti-lock brakes, and traction and stability control as well. The rearview camera option comes standard for all models except the SXT one.

What are some Other Cars in the Segment?

The models which appear as potential substitutes for the 2018 Dodge Durango are plentiful. Similar cars are numerous but there are fine differences between these models which distinguish them. In fact models which we can view as the closest competition cars here are Chevrolet Traverse, Chrysler Pacifica, Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder.
