2018 Chevrolet Trax review

With the 2018 Chevrolet Trax release, the car is getting an update. Not that it needed it, but it is still nice that we can get a fresh new look for a car once in a while. The last update came in 2014 and a lot can happen in four years so the designers felt that the model needed to provide us with something new. The car will get a better look and also be provided with updates on the inside. But the sporty design is not all, as the Trax arrives with a completely new trim level this time, the Premier model which will be featured alongside the already present LS and LT trims.

Chevrolet has launched its Trax car for the worldwide market in 2012, but it took the car two years to make its debut in America. It actually arrived in the US for the first time as a 2015 model and was very successful. With some great selling numbers both domestic and worldwide, the Trax has unexpectedly established itself as a vehicle mainly aimed at younger audiences.

The Trax actually has a reputation of being a “girls car,” with more than 60 percent of the buyers in the past being female. But the model has a great presence on the market as a small SUV and it has the facts to back it up. Since we are nearing the release date and the pictures of the car have just come fresh off the print we are inclined to make a review about it post haste.

When is the Release Date for the 2018 Chevrolet Trax Predicted?

The newly updated 2018 Chevrolet Trax will be available a bit sooner. The predicted release date is supposed to be made for the end of 2017 when the car becomes available for sale. An exact timing will be announced soon.

What is the Price?

As far as the price goes, the 2018 Chevrolet Trax has just been given its listing. The base LS level starts at $21,895 in FWD form or $23,395 for AWD. The LT trim is priced $23,795 for the FWD and $25,295 for its AWD, wheel the new range-toping Premium model is offered at $26,995 for the FWD and $28,495 for AWD versions.

What are the Exterior Updates?

The exterior of the 2018 Chevrolet Trax has a very interesting new design. It is a welcoming and refreshing departure from the current offer. It comes with a completely new front fascia with a proportioned, dual port grille. The headlights are also differently shaped and the Chevy emblem has been moved up towards the upper air dam. The grill offers a stretched hexagonal shape so the front end has a kind of a smiling face. The upper trims come with projector lights.

The sides of the car do not have any significant updates made for them. The body does offer a darker color to start with and it allows the cladding to blend much better at the door seams. The rear end only has one significant change, and that comes in the form of the new taillights. They have the same shape and size, but provide a different layout now. Finally the last update is the 18-inch aluminum wheels which ride on five-spoke rims that are still used for the outgoing model.

Interior Additions

The welcomed change from the interior of the 2018 Chevrolet Trax is the dashboard. The old pad which extended all the way down and around the center stack is replaced with the new pad which will provide a slight overhang above the seven-inch MyLink color touch screen. There are some chrome inserts around the screen and the vents and it also surrounds the center console. The instrument cluster is also updated with ten new model getting two gauges, one for the engine speed and the other for vehicle speed, and a small 3×4-inch driver information screen. It also features a new rounded shape compared to a rectangular one of the present model.

Using the seven-inch MyLink infotainment system one can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car also offers 4G LTE internet connection with Wi-Fi hotspot capability and there is now an added keyless open and start capability.

Powertrain Choice

Chevy did not feel that the engine of the 2018 Chevrolet Trax needed to be updated. So they have decided to keep the old one in use. The Trax will use a 1.4-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine which is combined with a Hydra-Matic 6T40 six-speed automatic. The output is still 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, which is pretty decent for a car of this size.

0-60 mph Acceleration

As the engine does not change, the specs for the 2018 Chevrolet Trax do not change as well. The model will be able to speed up to 0-60 mph in 9.4 seconds and at the same time also develop a top speed of 115 mph. This is also a very decent rate for a car of this type.

Fuel Economy Ratings

Despite the fact that the 2018 Chevrolet Trax is perhaps an underpowered car in some sense, it returns with great fuel economy ratings. One of the changes that people were expecting here to happen is the addition of more power, but they decided to keep the car fuel efficient instead. With a return of 26 mpg in the city and 34 on the highway, the EPA rates are very good and provide us with great potential from this model.

Dominions

The new 2018 Chevrolet Trax will not make any changes as far as dimesons go, the model is supposed to provide us with the same type of size and capacity for the car. The length is measured to 167.2 inches and the wheelbase is 100.6 inches, the height is 64.8 inches, while width is 69.9 inches. The interior volume is still the same and although it feels a bit cramped the capacity of 93 cu ft is all that we get. The Trax will also boast with a cargo bay of 19 cu ft.

Safety Specifics

The new 2018 Chevrolet Trax will have all the standard safety features which the previous one had. Expect to see 10 airbags, including knee bags for both front occupants and even rear thorax bags that protect rear-seat riders’ ribcages. Added as well are a rearview camera, traction control, anti-lock brakes, stability control, and a tire-pressure monitor. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts, a forward-collision alert system, and lane-departure warning are all offered as part of the Driver Confidence II package given only for Premier models.

Rivaling Cars

The established competition for the 2018 Chevrolet Trax will be the same. The car does get a great update but the cars it will compete against will not change. The segment’s finest are still Kia Soul and Nissan Juke and will be the closest rivals that the Trax car will face.
