The high performance coupe, the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, is speculated to arrive in 2018. There were a lot of talks about this model and one of them was that the ZR1 version was never going to happen. But in May 2016, General Motors filed to trademark the name ZR1, which by itself does not have to mean anything. But a little bit later after that the spy photos emerged and showed us the new Corvette ZR1 version going through preparations.
The current seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette model was released in 2013. It replaced the previous C6 and was showcased as a fully retooled C7 model with a more angular design, a revamped interior with a near luxury setup and also offer an updated version of the powertrain. It also spawned the brand new LT1, which replaced the LS3, the Z06 and the R-Version, and it even came with a Grand Sport version followed by several limited edition models. But no ZR1 in sight.
It was then when we all thought that this version was never going to appear. But all hopes were not lost when the pictures of a mid-engine mounted Corvette appeared and caught our attention. The release date is speculated for 2018 and our review will reveal all the currently known facts about the car and help you get more insight about the long awaited 2018 Chevy Corvette ZR1 model.
When can we expect the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Release Date?
The newly appointed 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is expected to hit the market in 2018. Although this information is kept secretive there is no doubt that the car is gearing for a release by then. There are many hints which provide us with such a possibility and also they probably cannot afford to wait longer than that.
Potential Price Rate for the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
The potential price rate for the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is still not available. But being that this is the quickest and most powerful of all C7 models, it will probably be the most expensive one. But even though we estimate it at a price of around $120,000, it is still very affordable compared to some other models in the same performance region.
The prototype version of the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 hosts a few changes for its new rendering. It has new and larger vents placed on each of the corners of the front fascia. Underneath there is a massive splitter placed there and also the hood bulge is much bigger. This all leads us to believe that they are also preparing for something special under the hood.
The declkid in the rear has a big wing, which only the race spec Corvette models have. The previous ZR1 did not have this part but used a spoiler, but the bigger wing does not only mean that his car is evolving but also that it is probably going to add more power underneath. There are also rumors which state that Chevy will offer an aerodynamic package for this version, which gives more options for the people who want to have an affordable road friendly version or a track-based one.
What has been done on the Inside?
We have less information about the inside of the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 than its outside. The pictures of the interior are scarce, and we do not really know what they might do. But we do know that they are not planning on a drastically different design compared to the base version of the Vette model. The cabin will be, first and foremost, heavily based on the C7 design but will be influenced by the Z06 model. The majority of the upgrades will probably be carried over from the Z06 model and will be enhanced with a carbon-fiber trim and new upholstery options. We also predict on getting a new instrument cluster and a new infotainment system.
The current rumor is that the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will utilize the power from a twin-turbo V-8 powerplant, which will be called the LT5. This same kind of engine is supposed to be used in the upcoming Chevrolet Zora model as well. The output figures have not been confirmed yet, but given the fact that the current Z06 makes 650 horsepower and that that last ZR1 made 638 horsepower, we can safely say that the 2018 ZR1 is aiming at an output of around 700 horsepower.
Potential 0-60 mph Specs
If the 638 horsepower 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, manages to successful harness the power of the LT5 engine, we predict that the acceleration will be great as well. The potential 0-60 mph acceleration is estimated at 2.8 seconds while the top speed might amount to 205 mph.
Fuel Economy Expectations
Being that both the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the Zora model are still in preparation, no stats have been released for the fuel economy of the car. They are both using the same kind of engine so we can say that the differences between them are going to be small in terms of fuel consumption, but nothing has been said on how good the car might be. The most that we can hope for are some information that will probably emerge by the start of next year when production passes to its next stage.
The new 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will share the dimensions with its base version. The base Corvette model will not be significantly modified so the ZR1 can be made so all the numbers here can be transferred to the ZR1 model now. The length is 177.9 inches with a wheelbase of 106.7 inches. Height is 48.6 inches while the width is 77.4 inches. The passenger volume is currently 52 cu ft and the cargo bay is 15 cu ft, so there is a great possibility that even this will not be altered.
No real news has been issued for the safety additions of the new 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Because they are still in the developing stages, the last thing to consider and announce here are the specifications related to the safety. But this is not at all an unimportant aspect of the car. Chevy has always valued the safety of its passengers and users so they will do the same thing here. We predict a similar kind of package as in the other racer-inspired Chevrolet models and these details might also be used for the Zora model that is to come as well.
The competition for the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is pretty straight forward. There are not many cars which can compete with the stats and the aviated luxury that the new Corvette ZR1 is ready to provide. But it the McLaren 650S is perhaps the most worthy adversary viewed from all aspects. Models which can rival it in performance are the Ferrari 488 GTB and the Porsche 911 Turbo.
