Coming after a recent refresh, the redesigned 2018 BMW X3 is scheduled to make an appearance. A prolific vehicle with versatile and all-around efforts, the X3 has already established itself as a car which boasts both great performance, premium offers and great fuel efficiency. The 2018 version plans to expand on all of that with more interior roominess and greater comfort, if that is at all possible, and they are even offering a hybrid version this time.
The outgoing 2015 model is already a very good vehicle. The updates that have been incorporated recently actually make this car hold its own still in the market and present it as one of the more lucrative offers. But with the 2018 X3 they are trying to make the car as failsafe as possible and they are trying to patch up even the smallest details about the vehicle. One of the newest addition is the debut of an X3M40i model which will join the ranks of X3 vehicles in 2018.
With the latest batch of 2018 BMW X3 spy photos come some more information about the car. The camouflage has been stripped a bit further and the car displays a bit more. It is quite enough for us to devise a review as the vehicle is slanted for a release date coming next year.
Is there any News about a Release Date for the 2018 BMW X3?
Although the new pictures show us more about the 2018 BMW X3, they cannot tell us when the exact release date is going to be. This is still left to speculations but it is close and we do mean very close. The vehicle will probably make its debut somewhere next year but it is still hard to tell when exactly they might release it for sale.
Will the Price Increase?
The price will most certainly increase for the 2018 BMW X3. This is a redesign but a thorough one so a price rise is due. The current batch of cars starts with a base MSRP of $39,250, while the highest priced model is sold for $47,950. As far as the 2018 versions, we can expect another grand to be added to the total price. Also the M versions of the car were mentioned but they are not going to make an appearance along this one and will probably debut separately sometime after this one.
As the spy photos of the 2018 BMW X3 were able to show, the vehicle will receive various tune ups for the exterior. It is not a redesign as much as it is getting a little bit of work done, but it does manage to benefit the models immensely. The front part will continue using the trademark kidney grille which is a part of every BMW car so far and will be utilized here. The headlamps are a bit different and the whole front end seems a bit larger compared to the current car. The position of the LED strips is different and the halos around the bulbs take on a quite different shape.
The side of the car showcased some pretty interesting pieces that were redesigned. First of all the character line is now completely straight and gives off more of a refined look. There are new creases made which come sharper and the doors have a mirror effect which seems classy and interesting to see for the new car. The back of the car does not show much change. But it is the least visible part from all the photos taken, but it does seem that the overall character has been toned down and that mainly similar features will be used compared to the current model. The dual exhaust is still utilized here.
Still Much to Find out about the Interior
The inside of the 2018 BMW X3 has been revealed, but with a lot of covers still masking a larger portion of the vehicle’s interior. When it comes to the changes there appear to be some but the major ones will be revealed along the way. For now it is certain that the car gets a new steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster. The center console appears to carry over unchanged but adds more refinement and some chrome details. The shifter and the cup holders are moved a little bit and it allows for more space of the infotainment controls of the car. Also expected is a bigger display for the infotainment and it appears that for now this could be the highlight of the interior. More changes are sure to come but for now these are the most obvious ones.
A lot of Options for the Powertrain
Although there are a lot of ways that the 2018 BMW X3 can go in terms of the powertrain, there is still a lot that needs to be decided. No official news is available for now and we can only say that the engine choices will differ based on the market where they appear. The model will be offered in both gasoline and diesel variants but the most important news is the plug-in hybrid version which also makes an appearance. This model uses a CLAR platform so it means that we are probably looking at a larger engine option under the hood. The current model uses a turbocharged, 2.0- liter, 4-cylinder engine, which provides 240 horsepower, and a variant with a 3.0-liter displacement which has an output of 300 horses. There is the turbocharged 4-cyldiner diesel one which is capable of providing 180 hp. They may decide to offer the same lineup of engines and redesign them for a higher output and more power, but we shall see what path they decide to pick for their future X3 cars.
0-60 mph and Tops Speed
Depending on which road they decide to take their 2018 BMW X3 and its engine lineup, it will also determine the specs of the car. Some say that an estimated acceleration for the 2018 versions could be at around 6.2 seconds to reach 0-60 mph while the top speed is 155 mph. The current lineup of cars provides a boost of 6.2 seconds for the 2.0-liter gasoline version and 5.3 seconds for the 3.0-liter one, and they both have a top speed of 130 mph.
It is still not certain whether the fuel economy of the 2018 BMW X3 will change. The car is currently very much fuel efficient and does a great job on saving fuel and will not consume more than necessary. It would be interesting to see if they manage to get better scores out of the car compared to the ones seen so far. The smaller gasoline has a rating of 21 mpg city, 25 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined, while the bigger one ranges to 19/26/21 mpg.
Dimension and size
A redesign usually does not feature any updates in terms of the size and so will it be for the 2018 BMW X3 model. The previous model kept the size the same and so will the new version transfer the specs from the outgoing 2015 version when the last refresh was implemented.
The new 2018 BMW X3 will take some time until they compile the stats in regards with the safety of the car. But those will come promptly. There have been no major announcements made about the implication of new safety features so we are determined that the current alignment of equipment will stay the same with a few small changes to boot.
The updated of the 2018 BMW X3 will at the same time give the competition something to think about. BMW is in a constant race with its rivals in all fields so it cannot afford to lag behind. Cars like Land Rover Evoque, Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class are direct rivals in the segment and will continue to push the rivalry further once the X3 makes its debut.
