With the 2018 Acura NSX we are witnessing the revival of the brand which has perhaps been long forgotten. The NSX was a model that was produced in the 90s and manage to reach the benchmark of being a 4.5 second vehicle but finally reached its end in 2005 when the model was discontinued. But at the North American International Auto Show of 2015 we have seen the concept version of the car which will be released come 2018 as a production vehicle. And since its release date is getting closer and closer it is fitting to learn more about it though our review.
After a quarter of a century Acura has decided to offer a second-generation NSX vehicle. If that is not already strange enough an even more obscure fact is that the way they are designing and presenting their new car. The powertrain is going to be entirely different and will combine three electric motors into the mix. With the new 2018 NSX we are entering a new day and age for supercars.
The makers of Acura state that we are entering into a new age which creates a need for new experience and vehicles. Better ability and vivid performance is what we expect from the new contemporary models and so will the NSX become one. Here is our take and our review about the model.
When can we see the Release Date for the 2018 Acura NSX?
We are finally getting nearer to really getting the new 2018 Acura NSX. It is a car which has been teased for a period of time and after the concept was released the hype got even bigger. We are predicting good things for the car and actually wish that it has already been released, but unfortunately we will have to wait until the start of 2018 to get the car for sale.
What is the Potential Price of the 2018 Acura NSX?
The price range for the latest 2018 Acura NSX is not at all cheap, but it never goes cheap when we are talking super cars does it? The model will start to retail at $156,000 but we expect this price to rise depending on the kind of options you decided to add and various add-ons which the model can be fitted with.
The new 2018 Acura NSX will resemble the concept vehicle in many ways and will look almost identical. It is a close representation of the design but the front end will be almost unchanged. The nose will be covered with the familiar Acura beak and a massive grille and will combine with a new bumper design and air dams. But there are going to be some modifications compared to the concept version, but only slight ones which you can only notice upon closer inspection.
The front end will add a larger splitter down below and will separate the main grille from the side intakes. The headlamps will add different graphics and also added are new LEDs and LED strips as well which are going to replace the five-point configuration seen in the concept. The front hood will also add two large vents placed just above the wheel arches.
The taillights are transferred but are modified to fit this new car more. The same thing goes for the motorsport-inspired diffuser which has large vents on each of the sides. The four exhaust tips are no longer on the inside but are placed directly in the middle of the car. The added spoiler adds more complexity to this version of the car.
Although the interior of the 2018 Acura NSX is based on the concept vehiclesm but as its shows not a lot of it is actually kept. We do mean that we are not getting a leather-clad inside with Alcantara and carbon fiber, but instead we are getting a more toned down production version of the vehicle. Most of the carbon fiber was replaced with aluminum while the Alcantara is only given for the middle parts of the seats.
The center console is much more production friendly and there are a lot of buttons and knobs transferred from other Acura models. The steering wheel is updated and has a racing vibe to it with a flat bottom and the instrument cluster is very high-tech and provides a solemn offer.
The most interesting part of the 2018 Acura NSX is its powertrain. The all new twin-turbocharged, 75-degree V-6 has been specifically developed for this car. The mid-ship position is identical to the old NSX, but that is about it. It will come with both direct injection and port injection and will also use a Variable Timing Control to deliver optimal camshaft phasing. With this come the three electric motors, two for the front axels and the last one placed between the engine and the rear-based nine-speed DCT. In order to make the shifting more smoother we have the advanced nine-speed dual-clutch transmission and it all comes down to an output of 573 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 406 pound-feet from 2,000 rpm in total. The mid mounted V-6 makes 500 hp, the single one between the transmission and the engine allows for 47 horses at 3,000 rpm and 109 pound-feet from as low as 500 rpm. The front ones generate 36 horsepower and 54 pound-feet of twist to the front axle.
Top Speed and 0-60 mph
The numbers and specs for the 2018 Acura NSX are still not officially available and they are yet to announce the official stats. But we have the unofficial ones to help us devise our review. The current 0-60 mph ability for the car stands at around 3.5 seconds, which will make the NSX one of the speediest models in the market. The top speed is estimated at 191 mph.
The 2018 Acura NSX does not have really favorable fuel economy specs. It can be favorable if you compare it with other models form the segment but it is not at all a fuel-saving-minded car. As the estimations say the combined EPA rating comes to 21 mpg, with 21 mpg for city drives and 22 mpg on the highway. People who can afford this car will probably not mind the fuel consumption but it is still worth noting.
The dimensions of the 2018 Acura NSX will differ based on the last generation model, but will not change compared to the concept design. The dimensions which were established in the concept will be kept here and we can experience a well-balanced car which was made well and now will be transferred completely. The model is 176 Inches long and has a wheelbase of 103.5 Inches, the height is 47.8 Inches and the width is 76.4 Inches. All in all it is a well-managed and well balanced car all-together.
Safety Characteristics of the 2018 Acura NSX
With your all new 2018 Acura NSX you will find a slew of both active and passive features. It adds single-stage driver and dual-stage passenger multiple-threshold airbags and the front seats have three-point belts with automatic tensioning system and reminder. The active features are Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control, Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Brake Distribution, Brake Assist, Multi-Angle Rearview Camera with Dynamic Guidelines, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System with Location and Pressure Indicators.
The competition for the 2018 Acura NSX is pretty obvious. These are type of cars which cannot be rivaled in speed, price or performance so they just need to stick together. Well the people who decide to opt for the NSX may also think about the Ferrari 488 GTB and Audi R8.
