One of the newly announced upcoming models is the 2018 Acura ILX model. This is going to be a facelifted version of the car which was introduced in 2013, and although it was not on the market for a long time in this form, it has already been given an update. The facelifted version will include some minor changes but the most important one is the powertrain replenishment which is the major difference between the current and the new models.
The Acura ILX model made its first appearance in 2013 and was introduced as Acura’s first compact brand after the Acura RSX model. Since the RSX had been discontinued in 2006, they needed a worthy substitute to come instead of this model. Although they were seemingly late, the ILX proved to be a worthy model in the segment.
The announced 2018 version is supposed to keep the ILX competitive for a few more years until a more thorough redesign is introduced. For now there is no word on when the next generation model might appear but this one is going to work quite nicely in its stead. Looking at the released pictures, the 2018 Acura ILX does not look that much different compared to before. Although, small the updates are worthy and it will all be visible once the car appears after its release date.

The model will add various sort of packages and optional additions which will enhance the price. So the highest price the car may go for is $34,890.
What are the Exterior Changes?
The updates that were made to the 2018 Acura ILX mainly focus on the front end of the car. The shape and size of the car is still the same but the updates that are featured are mainly positioned upfront. We can see a restyled grille, with the trademark beak, five-point LED headlamps that come with revised turn signals and also a reshaped apron.
The rear end of the car does not have many changes made to it. The most significant include the sharper LED taillights and the lower apron received additional housings that only mimic the air intakes which are seen on the bumper. Finally, the wheels have been updated with a ten-spoke design and the car uses 17-inch aluminum alloys.
The inside of the 2018 Acura ILX features a small update. The visual design of the car is similar with just a few tweaks, while the equipment and the technological side also has certain enhancements. The new touches include contrast stitching placed on the steering wheel, the shift know and the parking brake, while there is a silver trim placed on the passenger’s side dashboard. The models that come with the Premium and Technology packages come with expanded features because you get an exclusive Premium Black interior with Lux Suede seat inserts, grey stitching and red instrument panel illumination.
The luxury and convenience for the car has been upgraded but it is mostly limited to the Technology and Premium packages. There you can find such upgrades as a two-position driver’s seat memory function, Homelink remote, a four-way power passenger seat, and Acura’s On-Demand Multi-Use Display with upper eight-inch display screen and lower seven-inch touchscreen.
Powertrain and Specs
Possibly the most significant changes come under the hood of the 2018 Acura ILX. The power is transferred to the wheels thanks to an updated 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine which makes 201 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 180 pound-feet of torque at 3,600 rpm. The expanded engine now offers 51 ponies and 40 pound-feet of torque more compared to the current model which uses the 2.0-liter four-banger, or 10 additional pound-feet of torque more compared to the previous version of the 2.4-liter engine. Some other great news about the combination for the powertrain is that it will use an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission with torque converter and shift paddles.
0-60 mph Acceleration and Top Speed
With the changes made to the engine of the 2018 Acura ILX, the car will be able to make it to 0-60 mph in just 6.6 seconds. This also affects the top speed which branches to 133 mph.
Fuel Economy Specifications
The fuel economy rating will not change for the 2018 Acura ILX version. It will retain the same numbers as it did before. But ultimately this is not a bad thing as the EPA rates from before were acceptable. The car consumes 25 mpg in city drives, 36 mpg for highway drive and a combined rating of 29 mpg.
Dimensions for the 2018 Acura ILX
As mentioned, the 2018 Acura ILX is going to have the same dimensions and the same shape that the current car has. There was no need to change the shape of the car in any sort of way and the facelifted version will still be 179.1 inches long and have a wheelbase of 105.1 inches. The height is 55.6 inches and the width is 70.6 inches. Facelifts rarely do get dimension extensions and this one will have the same treatment.
In order to help the 2018 Acura ILX get the best out if its safety offer, the model has adopted a number of technology upgrades that will help make the car much better. Some of them are transferred from the current version, but there are some additions which will be offered through various packages that the ILX now provides. The AcuraWatch package is the most expanded one as it brings a slew of technological updates which include Adaptive Cruise Control, Multi-View Rear Camera, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Road Departure Mitigation and revised Collision Mitigation Braking System.
The updates made for the 2018 Acura ILX will help it be competitive for a while longer. The bigger updates will come once the car reaches its next generation model, but that is a story for another time. For now, the list of rivals includes the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class models and the Audi A3, both very capable and popular cars in the segment.
